I think we all struggle with masculine pages, so I thought I would give you a technique you can use add a masculine touch to your layouts or cards.  This technique is simple, and would look stunning on historical pages as well.
Run a strip of patterned paper along the edge of your background paper.  Set this paper edge with a row of snaps, brads or buttons all along the seam of the two papers. For a little more feminine design use something with a bit more sparkle.
Another idea would be to do a double row of stitching like you find on denims.   You can grab your sewing machine, rub ons or stitching stamps.  If you grab your sewing machine here is a tip: Run the right side of the presser foot along the edge of the paper and sew nice and slow to create a nice straight line .  Then on most sewing machines you can move the needle around, so I lined up the left side of the presser foot with my previous line of stitching and move the needle so it just on the edge of the paper, and sew nice and slowly again.
You can then add the look of rivets by adding snaps or brads to the top or bottom of the stitch lines.

Here are two similar cards using these two techniques.

(the colours are a little wonky on the cardstock it really is more yellow)
